Lattice Breaks the Rules With ECP5 FPGA Family for High-Volume Small-Cell, Microserver, Broadband Access & Video Applications

Lattice Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: LSCC) today announced its ECP5™ family for small-cell, microserver, broadband access, industrial video and other high-volume applications where the lowest-possible cost, lowest-possible-power, and smallest-possible form-factor are crucial. The ECP5 Family ‘breaks the rules’ of conventional FPGA approaches to deliver a SERDES-based solution for designers to rapidly add features and functions to complement those delivered by ASICs and ASSPs, reducing development risk and quickly overcoming time-to-market challenges.

Lattice optimized the ECP5 family’s architecture with the goal of delivering the best value below 100k LUTs for performing critical functions as a companion chip to ASICs and ASSPs. Achieving 40% lower cost than competing solutions, optimizations include small LUT4 based logic slices with enhanced routing architecture, dual-channel SERDES to save silicon real estate, and enhanced DSP blocks for up to 4x resource improvements.

Sharp Expands its Small TFT LCD Line-up for Personal Audio Visual (PAV) Applications

Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas (SMA) announced two additions to its small TFT LCD module line-up.The two CGS (Continuous Grain-Silicon) LCDs include a 1.6-inch Class (1.56-inch diagonal) Transflective Color LCD for wearable technology and a 2.95-inch (diagonal) SVGA+ LCD. The new displays, perfect for personal audio visual (PAV) applications,will be on show at Display Week 2014 in San Diego, CA, June 3 – 5.

The 1.6-inch Class LS016B8YUxx:The slim profile of this high-performance module is perfect for wearable product design. A highly reflective Transflective display (10% reflectionratio), it can be operated with the backlight off in most conditions to save power and is switchable between monochrome and color mode.Resolution of 180 ×RGB ×180 in color mode and an 800:1 contrast ratio delivers crisp images and superior outdoor readability.

The 2.95-inch LS030B3DXxx: This Landscape-mode module delivers an image with 366 ppi (pixels per inch) quality, due to a high aperture ratio, plus a highly-transmissive color filter and polarizer give it a high brightness of 600 nits (typical) and a contrast ratio of 1000:1 (typical). Excellent viewability is delivered via Sharp’s new wide view angle technology. The panel includes a COG (Chip-on-Glass) driver, with an internal controller and power supply.

Micrel Launches Ultra-Low Jitter FUSION Crystal Oscillators That Offer Industry-Leading Performance in Advanced Communications Applications

Micrel Inc., (Nasdaq:MCRL),an industry leader in high-performance Linear and Power solutions, LAN and timing and communications solutions, today introduced the MX55/57 FUSION, crystal oscillator clock (XO) solutions. These devices offer industry-leading phase jitter performance of 170fsrms (12kHz to 20MHz) in standard 5mm x 7mm or 3.2mm x 5mm footprint. These XOs target a broad range of frequencies up to 840MHz and support standard frequencies for applications including 10/40/100G Ethernet, optical communications, SAS and PCI Express. All options are available in volume quantities and short lead times, with pricing below $10.00 for 1,000 quantities for most configurations. The MX55/57 family offers a compelling high power supply noise immunity enabled by on-chip linear regulators that improve overall performance in noisy environments. The devices support 3.3V or 2.5V supply and LVPECL, LVDS, CMOS and HCSL output logic formats. These devices meet +50ppm total stability including aging and temperature drift across a -40°C to +85°C operating temperature range. The use of a proven plastic molded assembly improves long term reliability and minimizes aging drift compared to traditional XO devices. Finally, all options are available in a compact 3.2mm x 5mm package for the MX55 product family that reduces costly board space, a key concern for high channel density applications. The MX57 family of solutions comes in an easy-to-design 5mm x 7mm package option.
